Rent Rebate Scam Warning

Senior citizens in the Lehigh Valley are receiving information from the Senior Advisory Center saying that the Center can file Pennsylvania Property Tax/Rent Rebate for $39 plus a $2 credit card charge. Berks Encore would like to remind all senior citizens that they can get this rebate completed through Berks Encore at no charge.


“What we've heard is that this company addresses letters with accurate spelling and even includes a bar code to make the mailing look legitimate," says LuAnn Oatman, Berks Encore CEO. "The company is based in California, but has a PO Box in Harrisburg. It has received an 'F' rating from the Better Business Bureau, so Berks Encore cautions senior citizens from utilizing their services. At this point we do not know if the mailings will expand to include Berks County, but if you should receive information from this company, please shred the documents.”
