Get The Most Out of The Big Day!

If this is your first year attending Berks Encore's Senior Expo, it's best to come prepared. Walking into The Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex can be overwhelming, given the number of other attendees and expo vendors. The following checklist provides you with some helpful hints to ensure that you get the most out of your expo experience.

Start Planning Before the Event

  • Map out the booths you want to see using the copy of the Customers Bank Senior Expo program booklet that will be included in the October 24 Reading Eagle.
  • Plan on spending at least two hours at the event.
  • Doors open at 8 a.m., with the Exhibit Halls opening at 9 a.m. Programs run from 9:15 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., and doors close at 3 p.m.
  • Contact your friends and family to attend as a group.

Things to Consider Before You Leave Home

  • Wear comfortable shoes and clothing.
  • Bring a bottle of water.
  • Bring along a bag to carry the marketing materials you will receive from the various vendors.
    • Some vendors may supply a bag but not everyone is guaranteed to receive one, so be sure to bring your own.
  • Bring lots of return address labels to affix to door prize drawing forms.
    • Realize that by giving your name and contact information for door prize drawings, you are giving that business the right to contact you.

If you have walking issues:

  • Bring your cane, walker or wheelchair.
    • If you need a wheelchair but don't have one readily accessible, plan to use one of the courtesy wheelchairs provided by InHome Oxygen.

Getting There

  • Carpool with friends and family.
  • Check the BARTA schedule special direct service to Senior Expo from the BARTA Transportation Center.
  • Park at the VF Outlet lot off of Park Road.
  • The first shuttle bus leaves the parking area at 7:45 a.m.
  • Receive coupons by riding the shuttle bus to The Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex.

If you plan to park in the handicap-only parking at The Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex:

  • Invite friends and family to carpool with you.
  • Have your tag visible. All cars will be checked for handicap tag and exhibitors' permits at the gate.

The Day After

Help Combat Senior Hunger

Help combat senior hunger during Berks Encore’s Senior Expo! An estimated 10% of Meals on Wheels (MOW) clients qualify for the Greater Berks Food Bank but lack the transportation to pick up the items. Through a new initiative, Berks Encore volunteers deliver the items directly to qualified MOW clients. The food collected during Senior Expo will augment these deliveries.

Donations will be accepted throughout the day on October 29 at the VF Outlet parking lot on Park Road, Wyomissing. Donations can also be dropped off at The Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex the week prior to the Senior Expo as well as the day of the event. Suggested nonperishable items include:

  • Canned mixed fruit (in light syrup)
  • Individual servings of applesauce (natural)
  • Raisins/prunes
  • Mixed dried fruits
  • Canned tuna (in water)
  • Canned chicken
  • Peanut Butter
  • Low-Sodium Soups
  • Brown Rice
  • Dry Cereal
