10th Annual Community Breakfast

Honoring Karen Rightmire

On June 2, Berks Encore will celebrate Karen Rightmire’s generosity and commitment to the community during its 10th Annual Community Breakfast. Please join us at 7:30 a.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Reading to celebrate her accomplishments. I sincerely hope you will attend.

Many people know Karen as the driving force behind the United Way of Berks County for 20 years. Following her lead, the organization’s staff and 3,000 volunteers addressed the community’s most pressing health and human service problems. What people might not know is that Karen’s generosity went beyond the walls of the United Way. Organizations recognized her giving spirit by bestowing her with numerous awards including The Thun Award for Community Service (2004), the Jacob Albright Award from Albright College (2009), and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals (2009).

But Karen’s career was never about her honors or achievements; its focus was on creating a positive and uplifting environment for all Berks County residents.

Berks Encore, too, remains focused on improving the quality of life for the older adults in our community. Through a variety of programs and education, we aspire to prepare people for the aging process and empower them with the knowledge that their post-retirement years need not be any less fulfilling and vibrant than when they were younger.
